Kristin Saad is one of those athletes who found obstacle racing by "accident". She has a long athletic history, including running Division 1 for Miami University. After college, she became competitive in triathlons while working full-time in medical and pharmaceutical sales.

In 2010, she met my husband and 18 months later we were married. Just settling in married life a month after their wedding she found out she was pregnant. With twins! As she says, "I guess you could say I tend to do things quickly, competitively ...maybe even aggressively."

Twin pregnancy threw her body and mind for a loop. She spent over two months on bed rest, and another 3 months after recovering and sleep deprived before she took a step running! Her body had changed a lot, and she soon after found a trainer to help strengthen some weaknesses in her hamstrings. This is where she was sneakily introduced to OCR.

Prior to having kids, she spent all my time running, swimming or biking, with very little time in the weight room. Looking back, it's probably why she suffered almost every "running" injury known to man. Her trainer suggested she do the local Chicago Spartan Race.

He said she would do well. Saad looked at the website and said "no way I would be running through mud and carrying a bucket. And then I signed up."

She loved competition too much and it had been way too long since she had raced. Her first Spartan Race "kicked my ass." 125 burpees later she finished 3rd and was hooked.

Last year (2016) was her first season. Her 3rd race ever was the NBC Spartan Race Montana Sprint where she finished 5th place and spent whole race with a cameraman yelling "what's your name?"

Saad joins the podcast this week to talk about her current journey in life balancing twins, charity work, a family, and competing at a professional level. This one is unique as while we all might not be professional athletes finding the time to fit in everything in a day is a universal among so many women, especially mothers!

Rea Kolbl is an athlete on the Spartan Pro Team and a Ph.D. student at Stanford. In her first full year of obstacle racing, she has accomplished a laundry list of achievements including winning the last race of the Spartan US Championship series in West Virginia, cementing the 2nd place in the US Championship Series overall. She also placed 2nd in the inaugural US OCR Championship, her first non-Spartan OCR race. She lives and trains in the San Fransisco Bay area, with trail running being her main obsession. When not on trails she is either working in the lab, traveling to races, or annoying her partner in crime, husband Bunsak Pra.

On the podcast, she talks about her history in gymnastics and how obstacle racing gave her a second chance to be an athlete and more.
