Stefanie Bishop always grew up active from the time she could crawl. She competed in a number of different sports growing up, but it wasn't until 2009 when she read a New York Times article that would really spark something new in her life.
That New York Times article was about the Death Race. In this week's episode of the podcast, Bishop talks about growing up, being recruited to gymnastics from a birthday party, how winning the Death Race turned into a job in finance, and more. She talks about why she prefers adventure racing and other extreme endurance events to short distance courses. Finally, talks about the importance of community in long events.
Bishop recently won the 2016 World's Toughest Mudder and to many this was their first introduction to the endurance athlete. In our podcast, she talks about how she got into the obstacle racing world in 2010 then took a break for a few years but always had WTM on her radar.
Check out this week's episode, coming out on Bishop's 34th birthday!

Orla "Vermonster" Walsh joins the podcast this week. Orla is a member of the Spartan Race Pro Team, a nurse/paramedic in Vermont, and spends her weekends in the winter ski patrolling. She joins the podcast this week to talk about her past, present, and future.
During the podcast, Walsh talks about losing her mother to breast cancer just before her high school graduation and how she dealt with the loss in college. She opens up about struggles faced in life and how for a time she turned to the bottle to numb out emotions. We dive into her decision to go into nursing and bring a paramedic. She talks about how ski patrolling is a big part of her life in the winter.
We also talk about her experience at Burning Man as a volunteer nurse/paramedic and she talks about how it was similar in some ways to her time as a nurse in Haiti. Finally, we chat about how she got into Spartan Race and how it was a woman named Lynn Lena that pushed her into the sport and how it's given her a second chance at athletics. She recently became an ambassador for the For Those Who Would Charity. All this and more this week on the Dirt in Your Skirt Podcast.

Sarah Williams joins the podcast this week. She is the founder of the successful Tough Girl Podcast, showcasing women conquering extreme challenging around the world. Sarah was kind enough to join us from her home in the United Kingdom to talk about her journey from a career in the banking industry to becoming a podcast host, author, speaker and entrepreneur.
Sarah quit her job in the banking industry in 2013 and took the next year and a half to travel the world and figure out what her next step would be. In the process, she biked some of the most dangerous roads in the world, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, and spent a winter as a chalet host (innkeeper). She joins the podcast this week to talk about some of those adventures and her process of creating the Tough Girl Podcast.
Sarah has written two books about her experience on Kilimanjaro and Chalet hosting. She recently finished Marathon des Sables in 2016 and has just finished a book with all the do's and don'ts for those interested in running the event.
